Florence Lane Wellons

Florence Lane Wellons was my grandfather Ralph’s mother. My great grandmother.

She was born on July 27, 1876 in Frankton, Indiana.

She married John H. Wellons on March 23, 1898 in Hamilton County, Indiana (the home base of the Wellons clan was in Clarksville).

She died on September 24, 1933, not many years after her mother and father passed.

Her father was John Lane and her mother was Delila Ann Webb Lane.

She had 10 children. She was one of 13 children. Her oldest son was named Branson. She had an older brother (not the oldest) named Branson. She had a son named Oscar. She had a brother named Oscar and he was the closest in age to her. She had twin brothers. These were the only twins in our family until the current generation.

We know some of this because of the 1880 census report. Her family is living in Jackson Township in. Madison County, Indiana. Jackson Township is west and north west of Anderson. It is south of Frankton (where her parents lived) and north of Lapel. There are no incorporated towns in the township. There is Perkinsville, if you need a name. And Hamilton (but not Hamilton County).

Siblings not shown in this 1880 census report are sister Jane, who would have been 23 years old, plus Charles M and Elmer, who died in infancy.

We almost know more about Florence’s mother and grandfather than we do about her. This is because of the survival of obituaries for both individuals.
