Uncle Gordon Wyant
Clarence Gordon Wyant was the youngest of the Wyant kids. He was born on April 3, 1911 in Springfield, Missouri and died on August 23, 1999 in Anderson of an acute myocardial infarction or a heart attack. He was living at 7520 Sprague Street in Anderson at the time and was divorced. He was cremated in Greenwood, but I don’t know if his remains were buried at a grave site.
In the 1940 census, we see:
Gordon, age 29, a metal polisher at an auto parts manufacturer, making $800 per year.
Lida, age 29, an assembler at an electrical equipment company, making $1,080 per year. I believe her actual name was Katherine Saralee. “Lida” or “Lila” may have been a nickname.
They lived in Ward 2 in Anderson.
Uncle Gordon was, according to my mom, a shyster...or something to that effect. “Flaky” comes to mind. A pleasant guy to be around, but not someone to be trusted.
He worked for awhile as a shoe repairman, along with his dad Charles and his brother Paul.
He was working as an excavating contractor, self-employed, according to a city directory in 1949. He changed jobs and he changed wives. Interestingly, I don’t know of any children.
He married Katherine Saralee Elliot on June 10, 1944. She was born on January 16, 1923 and died on April 27, 2009, having been married for some time to Mr. Calvin Bennett. She died of coronary artery disease.
When he married his last wife, LaVera Alvialine Maynard Brown in Alexandria he was 77 and she was 61. On the marriage license he reports that his former wife died on September 15, 1987. I’m not sure who that was, but it wasn’t Katherine Saralee Elliot Wyant, his first wife.
His brother Fred E. Wyant’s obituary says that Gordon was living in Melbourne, Florida at the time.
